There are two different types of electrode, the ignition electrodes and the flame sensing electrodes. The ignition electrode creates a spark that begins the combustion process. The flame sensing electrodes are responsible for checking the flame in the burner, this is an important safety device designed to stop the fuel if the flame is not lit .
