There are two different types of electrode, the flame sensing electrodes and the ignition electrodes. The ignition electrode is used to create a spark that begins combustion within the burner. The flame sensing electrodes are responsible for ensuring there is a flame in the burner, and if it is not working properly stops more fuel from being added .
