There are two different types of electrode, the flame sensing electrodes and the ignition electrodes. The ignition electrode is also known as a spark electrode and causes a spark that begins combustion within the burner. The flame sensing electrodes are responsible for ensuring there is a flame in the burner, and stops fuel being added if the flame is not correctly lit .
