There are two different types of electrode, the flame sensing electrodes and the ignition electrodes. The ignition electrode also known as a spark electrode, is responsible for causing a spark that begins the combustion process. The flame sensing electrodes are responsible for detecting whether there is a flame in the burner, this is important as if the flame is not burning correctly or not at all then no more fuel will be added .
