There are two different types of electrode, the flame sensing electrodes and the ignition electrodes. The ignition electrode is responsible for causing a spark that starts the flame in the burner. The flame sensing electrodes are responsible for ensuring there is a flame in the burner, this is important as if the flame is not burning correctly or not at all then no more fuel will be added .
