The flow switch is used as a safety device that has a built in sensor which sits in the pipework for both the central heating and hot water systems. The flow switch is designed so that it can detect movement in the pipework and feeds the information back to the printed circuit board which then allows the ignition sequence to progress. The purpose of the flow switch is making sure there is plenty of water in the system and prevents the burner from activating if the system is low on water.
